Peggy McNeil
Margaret (Peggy) McNeill, PhD, RN, APRN-CNS, CCRN-K, CCNS, NE-BC, FAAN, Colonel, U.S. Air Force Nurse Corps (Retired). Peggy chairs the nursing research council and champions evidence-based practice initiatives, provides research consultation, and conducts research. She graduated from New York University and the University of Maryland Baltimore where she was the 2008 outstanding doctoral graduate. She retired from the U. S. Air Force, with the rank of Colonel, in 2012 after 28 years of service in roles including expert clinician, administrator, and nurse scientist. As the first-ever Air Force Critical Care Master Clinician and the Air Force Surgeon General’s Consultant for Critical Care Nursing, Dr. McNeill directly impacted Department of Defense research, policy, and practice. She helped establish the first deployed U.S. medical research team in Iraq and served as senior leader for inpatient operations at the major U.S. military hospital in Afghanistan – contributing to unprecedented casualty survival rates. As chief nurse of the Center for the Sustainment of Trauma and Readiness Skills at Baltimore’s Shock Trauma Center, Dr. McNeill was instrumental in establishing a pioneering training unit that prepares military personnel for arduous deployments. She evaluated hospital quality in Kuwait, provided training in Europe and Africa, and evaluated equipment for U.S. military combat use. Her research focused on military patient care, transport, disaster response, and organizational transformation, and she has been a champion for ethical research conduct. She has been recognized for contributions to the Department of Defense with awards including the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and Air Force Meritorious Service Medal. She has been inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, and is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies. She actively volunteers for several other professional associations to include AACN and ASPAN.
