I recently had a wake up call regarding my health. Another reminder that I need to make personal some of those healthy changes that I teach to others. I know what is true, I know what I need to do. Making change is often best done one step at a time. Big goals can be overwhelming. Or is this just how it is for me? The finish line seems so far away - and then when it comes to healthy choices - we are never truly finished. Right?
Recently, in a coaching session I was turned on to the 5% rule. What if today, I just give 5% more toward the goal. Don't take it all on in a day. So, I've been doing that. Of course, I have chosen to do the easiest 5% up until now. Now I'm at the hard stuff, hard for me. After a full month or more of not doing even the 5% more, I recruited accountability - someone who inspires me through the level of discipline they are committed to, and doesn't pretend that it is easy - and I asked my wonderful sister-in-law to hold me accountable to my fitness goals. Best thing I could have done! Knowing that she is going to ask gives me that additional motivation to get moving. She is good at it too!
So, as I tackle my goals one step at a time (literally) and learn to approach wellness as prevention instead of repair, I immediately wanted to share this article.
"It is the culmination of daily choices that will create the sum total of our health-care outcomes; do we chose to repair or prevent?"
Right now, I still have some repairing to do. It is definitely more difficult than preventing! Thing is, just one preventative change can affect many outcomes. My first step toward a lifestyle of wellness and prevention was implementing the use of essential oils into my every day life. I am so glad that I did! Using essential oils has given me the energy and strength to tackle the other bad habits I had adopted.
I am determined to focus our energy on powerful and productive health habits.
