Are you old enough to remember Captain Kangaroo? ..."and you know my name is Simon, and the things I draw come true. and the pictures take me, take me over the garden wall with you"... SIMON IN THE LAND OF CHALK DRAWINGS
Evidently delays due to fog only effect incoming flights, thus a day in the Atlanta Airport catching up on webinars and blogs that are stored in my Que... I just re-watched some of my favorite TEDTalks - with Simon Sinek. Next up, reading a book that I have on my kindle, "Leaders Eat Last: Why Some Teams Pull Together and Others Don't" also by Simon Sinek.
I chose the book for this....
"Imagine a world where almost everyone wakes up inspired to go to work, feels trusted and valued during the day, then returns home feeling fulfilled."
Can you imagine that? Are you experiencing that right now?
Any time I have had the opportunity to choose what I do with my time, it has been this same notion that has been the driving force. To inspire people to do what inspires them. I love any chance I have for empowering people to feel better, to be better. We are all created for purpose, for mission, for love, for connection. It may look very different for everyone (which itself is fascinating) but we are created to live out a life that is inspired - on earth as it is in heaven. What inspires you? Are you fulfilled in your work?
I don't experience that in my current full time job and this book is making me feel worse about it. If I were in a place of leadership, I would .... No, wait - let me re-think this.... I CAN lead. It may not change the entire culture of the institution but it can change the part I am in contact with. I cannot leave my job right now, but I can live out my mission, my "Why". Why I do what I do should apply to all areas of my life if I really believe it. It's time to go to work, at work. And it's time to do some fine tuning of my "WHY".
What is your "Why?" Why do you get up every day and do what you do? Do you like that answer?
Simon from the land of chalk drawings had dreams of a world of adventure and inspiration. Do you think Simon Sinek was named after Simon from the land of chalk drawings? "...the things I draw come true"
